Terms of service Last updated on August 14, 2026
Padlok is published by Illumineering SAS, a company registered in France. By downloading or using the app you accept these terms, so please read them before you start.
Your licence
The app is licensed to you, not sold. Your licence is governed by Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which applies in full. The terms on this page are supplementary: where the two conflict, Apple’s agreement prevails.
Under that licence you may install and use Padlok on any Apple device you own or control, for personal, non-commercial use.
The app, its name, its design and all associated trademarks, copyright, database rights and other intellectual property remain ours. You may not sell, rent or redistribute the app, remove its notices, or pass it off as your own. You may not attempt to extract its source code or create derivative versions, except where the law gives you that right — in the European Union, nothing here restricts the acts of observation, study and decompilation permitted by Articles 5 and 6 of Directive 2009/24/EC.
Your content
The addresses, codes and instructions you put into Padlok are yours. They are stored on your device and in your own iCloud, end-to-end encrypted, and we never receive them — see our Privacy policy.
Because they are yours, they are also your responsibility. You are responsible for having the right to store and share the access information you record, and for who you send it to. Padlok is a tool for keeping and passing on information you are entitled to hold; it is not a way to distribute access to premises you have no right to open. Please respect the rules of your building and the wishes of the people who gave you the code.
Since we cannot read your data, we cannot recover it for you. Keep iCloud backup enabled if losing an address would be a problem.
Free use and Padlok Premium
Padlok is free to download and lets you create three addresses, including sharing, notifications and widgets.
Padlok Premium removes that limit and adds features such as unlimited and personalised addresses and biometric app locking. It is offered as an auto-renewing subscription, monthly or yearly, and also as a one-off lifetime purchase for those who prefer to pay once.
For subscriptions:
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
- The subscription renews automatically for the same period unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings after purchase. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
- Current prices are shown in the app and on the App Store before you confirm, in your local currency. Prices may change; you will always see the price before you pay.
The lifetime unlock is a one-off purchase tied to your Apple Account, restorable at no extra cost on any device signed in to it.
Padlok also offers optional tips — small one-off purchases that support the app’s development. They unlock nothing and buy no features. They are simply a thank you, and they are not refundable through us.
All purchases are made through the App Store and sold by Apple, not by us. Your receipt, your billing and any refund are handled by Apple under the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. To request a refund, use reportaproblem.apple.com.
Your device, your connection
Some features — iCloud sync, sharing a link, restoring a purchase — need an internet connection, over Wi-Fi or your mobile network. We cannot be responsible for the app working at less than full functionality when you have no connection.
Outside Wi-Fi, your agreement with your mobile provider still applies, and you may be charged for data, including roaming charges abroad. If you are not the bill payer for the device, we assume you have the bill payer’s permission.
Keeping your device secure is your responsibility, and it matters more than usual for an app that holds door codes. We recommend a passcode, Padlok’s biometric lock, and against jailbreaking, which can expose your device to malicious software and may stop the app working properly or at all.
Availability, updates and termination
Padlok is available on iOS and Apple Watch, with shared addresses openable in an App Clip or a web page. System requirements may change as we update it, and you may need to install those updates to keep using it. We do not promise to keep updating the app indefinitely or to keep it compatible with every iOS version you may be running.
We may stop providing or supporting the app. If we do, your licence ends and you should stop using it. We would give reasonable notice where a live subscription is affected, and anything you have paid for remains subject to Apple’s refund policy.
Our responsibility to you
We work to keep the app correct and reliable, but it is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of it — including being unable to open a door because a code was out of date, a notification did not arrive, or your device had no battery. Keep a fallback for anything that matters.
Nothing here limits your rights as a consumer that cannot be limited by contract. If you are a consumer in France, that includes the legal guarantee of conformity (Articles L217-3 and following of the Code de la consommation) and the guarantee against hidden defects (Articles 1641 and following of the Code civil). If you are a consumer elsewhere in the EEA or the UK, the mandatory protections of your country of residence apply.
Services used by the app
These providers have their own terms, which apply to their part of the service.
- Apple Media Services — Terms and Conditions (App Store, iCloud, CloudKit)
- RevenueCat (subscription management)
- TelemetryDeck (usage analytics)
How we handle data is set out in our Privacy policy.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by French law. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live.
If you have a complaint, contact us first through our support page — most things are settled that way. Anything to do with a payment, a receipt or a refund is handled by Apple as the seller, through reportaproblem.apple.com. If a dispute cannot be settled between us and you are a consumer, you may bring proceedings in the courts of the country where you live.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time and will post the new version on this page, with the date below.
These terms are effective as of August 14, 2026.
